Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Discipleship Pathway for Children

Jesus Welcomes Children

“Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them. “Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children”. Then he blessed the children and went away from there.”    Matthew 19: 13-14,

FUMC offers a variety of safe learning and worship environments for children and their families. Those with very small children can place them with our caring nursery workers or keep them with them in the lounge or in our sanctuary Grace Space. Recently I learned how glad a young mom has been to keep her children with her. The children are in daycare during the week so on Sunday it’s a blessing to remain together in worship. If you sit near a family with children in the sanctuary, will you greet them warmly? Will you look them in the eye and offer your hand to the children as well as the parent(s). Tell them you’re glad they’re here. Whether the child responds with a shy turn of their head or takes your hand and gives you a smile, Jesus will be pleased that you have welcomed them on his behalf. As someone new to FUMC I have appreciated people who have made a point of telling me their name and offering their hand to my 11 year old son as well.

During the 10:45 service children Pre K – 3rd Grade are learning to worship God in several ways. They begin each week with their families and have a special message from the Pastor. On the first Sunday of the month, they stay for the whole service. The other Sundays there is a Worship Center for Pre K – K and one for 1st and 2nd graders. They sing, pray, and engage in a Bible story differently than in Sunday School. They participate in worship that helps them grow to love and respond to God at their developmental level. The 3rd graders are having lessons explaining the components of worship in the United Methodist Church. As part of their learning experience the 3rd graders observed the many people who serve in different roles during our services and acted as assistant ushers. I have been impressed how engaged children are as they come to Jesus through these opportunities. Please feel free to contact me:
