From the Nurture Team

ATTENTION PARENTS WHO USE THE NURSERY

A new schedule sign up has been posted in the Nursery.  Renee would appreciate that everyone who has used the nursery at least 2 times in the last six months stop by the nursery and sign up for three dates over the next six months to help out there.  If you don't sign up, Sundays will be assigned so check your calendar and get your choice of dates while they are still available.  If you have questions, please see Marj Haney or Renee Williams.

Summer Sunday School

We plan to offer a full summer of Sunday school during the 10:15 worship time.  We will be using the Live BIG curriculum that is used during the school year in two combined classes of 4 year olds through 2nd graders and 3rd through 5th graders.  If you are interested in teaching either one of these classes for even two Sundays during the summer, please let Marj Haney know by May 15.  If we don’t get enough interest in helping, we won’t be holding these classes.  The classes will run June 1-August 24 with July 6 off for the holiday weekend.  The classes are easy to teach and all materials are provided.  Take a chance and get your feet wet during the summer.  We will have openings for teachers come fall also.

Those who volunteer to teach during the summer will be trained on Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 in the lounge.  More information about that will be given when volunteering.

Women's Fall Retreat

Sign ups have begun for the fall Women’s Retreat at Wesley Woods.  This year retreat will be held a little later than it has been before.  We have the weekend of October 17-19 reserved.  There is a capacity of 36 women with a minimum of 27 to make it a go.  The cost this year will be $110 and includes everything needed.  The theme is “The Organic God”, a DVD based spiritual growth study and features Margaret Feinberg filmed on location near her home in Alaska.  The retreat will begin on Friday evening at 7:00 (there will be no dinner served that night, please eat before arriving at the camp) and end on Sunday morning at 11:00.  Four meals are provided.  We will not be taking the bus this year but car pools will be arranged.  Please sign up soon if you are interested, payment will be due later.  If we don’t have the minimum by September 1, we will cancel our reservation.  See Marj Haney for more details and to get you and a friend’s name on the list!!

Children and Youth Summer Camps

The 2008 Summer Camp schedule has been published.  A full summer of camps with a wide variety of topics and choices is available for kids and youth in grades 1st through 12th.  Mini camps, lasting 3 days, are generally for those youths who have completed 1st through 3rd grades.  Beginning in the 3rd grade, there are many full week camps to choose from.  A full week of camp will cost $339-$344 this summer depending on location and theme and a mini-camp is $149-$185 depending on location and theme.  Some camps also charge fees for certain activities.  A full schedule of all camps is available at
www.westmichiganconference.org

The United Methodist Men have generously raised money again this year and supplemented the budgeted money to allow a half scholarship for all children of church members to attend one camp.  You can register your child for the camp of their choice yourself.  At least a $50 deposit must accompany your registration. Then let Marj Haney know which camp you have signed up for.  Around the middle of April, you will receive a check from the church made out to the Conference or to the camp for the scholarship.  You are responsible for sending that on to the registrar.

If you attended a camp last year, you will probably receive a registration packet at your home.  You might have already signed up for your camp last year at the end of your week.  Extra brochures and information will be available for those who haven’t attended before.  Please see the large poster on each Nurture board for everything related to camping.
