UMM: The End is Here
Posted December 14th, 2009 by mhaney
After many decades of service to our congregation, the Holland chapter of United Methodist Men (UMM) will cease to function beginning in 2010. Years of declining interest and participation by the men of our church has led the group's officers to recognize that time had come to let this traditional fellowship and service organization come to an end.
Over the years UMM has focused on supporting local ministry programs, raising and distributing roughly $4,000 a year – with most going to youth-related programs. UMM was instrumental in raising UM camp scholarships, from just $50 per camper to half of the costs of attending a week of camp (last year's scholarships were $180 each). UMM also supported annual bi-annual work groups to the Lake Louise, our UM youth camp near Boyne Falls, as well as Dock Therapy - another bi-annual afternoon of service at Lakeview United Methodist Campground.
Your UMM officers: President Tim Haney, Vice President Walt Garret, Secretary Mike Visscher, and Treasurer Bruce Rabe, would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our programs and events, and who helped to make those events successful. Each looks forward to continued personal service to the congregation – which may include aiding others who wish to stand in the gap by adopting what had been some of UMM's more popular projects, such as the Spring Service Package Auction & Dinner, and Tulip Time Parking.
Finally, the UMM officers endors and support the annual “10-for-10” campaign that will fund both youth mission trips and UM camp scholarships.
