The Jim Smith family created the Andrew James Smith Memorial Scholarship following the tragic death of their son on July 10, 1988. The $500 Scholarship, which is administrated by the First United Methodist Church, benefits senior students from West Ottawa, Holland High, and a senior from FUMC.
Students are required to submit an application to their school or FUMC. This is then reviewed by a committee at each place and the names are announced at graduation time. This year the scholarship from FUMC was awarded to Tim Chamness who will be attending the College of Engineering Research Scholars Program at Michigan Technical University, Houghton, MI. this fall. The scholarship was also awarded to Tarah Sissing from Holland High and Anthony Rademacher from West Ottawa. Congratulations!
